PR Students
The Alabama Chapter of PRSA is proud to sponsor six (6) PRSSA - Public Relations Student Society of America - chapters located at six universities across the state. These chapters range from well-established, decades old chapters at the University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Samford University in Birmingham; to a less than 10-year old chapter at Alabama State University (ASU) in Montgomery; to less than two-year old chapters at Auburn University (AU) in Auburn and University of North Alabama (UNA) in Florence. PRSA is proud to support these six PRSSA chapters and encourages any university with a communications/PR major to consider chartering a PRSSA chapter for their students.
Each PRSSA chapter is comprised of a Faculty Advisor from the school, a Professional Advisor provided by the Chapter, and student officers. For more information on forming a student chapter: www.prssa.org/chapters/start/
Additional ways PRSA Alabama Chapter supports our six PRSSA chapters in Alabama include a mentor program, a PR student scholarship award, and a biennial student summit. Alabama is also fortunate to be the home of Betsy Plank, APR, Fellow PRSA, past PRSA president and pioneer in PR leadership. She endowed the unique Plank Center at her alma mater, the University of Alabama, as a resource to develop and support leadership in public relations education and practice.
Announcments
Patti Conwell, APR, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Oakwood University, has an opportunity for students and PR practitioners. Her Principles of PR class is conducting research on the function of Public Relations in various settings in which students are required to discuss and learn from a PR practitioner based on their real world experience. This will provide information to the students in allowing them to complete their projects.
This opportunity calls for approximately 20 practitioners from corporate, non-profit, government and agency areas. Anyone interested in being on the list to help Professor Conwell’s class can email her pconwell@oakwood.edu to submit contact information.
