Missy Burchart, APR is the communications and development director for The Literacy Council of Central Alabama, a non-profit with the mission to teach illiterate adults to read and speak English. With more than 20 years of public relations experience, Burchart has worked on both the corporate and agency side serving an array of B-to-B and B-to-C clients. Burchart currently serves on the Alabama PRSA board of directors as the membership co-chair and previously served as program co-chair in 2014, and APR co-chair in 2012 and 2013. Clinton Colmenares grew up in Texas. Brisket and Tex-Mex course through his veins, but it’s much too hot in the Lone Star State for him to live there. He was been a medical reporter for newspapers in San Antonio, Montgomery and Nashville and entered PR as a PIO at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His experience includes leading research communications at the University of Maine, science and health media relations at UNC Chapel Hill and media relations at UAB. In August 2014 Clinton launched his own consulting practice, Apiary Communications Consulting, a hive of activity. He and his wife Trish have a very precocious daughter.  Leighton Lindstrom was born and raised in Huntsville before attending Auburn University (War Eagle!) where I received my bachelor’s degree in public relations. After graduating in 2012, I began working in the Corporate Communications and Marketing Department at Children’s of Alabama and have been there ever since. Garland Stansell, APR has been with Children’s of Alabama since 1994. He is responsible for strategic communications to serve the information, promotion, education and branding needs of the organization to internal and external audiences. Julie Senter is director of communications for UAB’s Collat School of Business, where she is responsible for marketing, internal communications, media relations, branding and social media efforts for the school. She is also principal of Senterline Communications, which provides nonprofits, associations and small businesses with strategic communications, social media and web development services. Prior to joining UAB in 2011, Julie worked as a reporter for newspapers in California, Alabama and Michigan, served as communications director for the Building Industry Association of Southern California and worked as a Congressional aide in Washington DC. She earned her B.A. in journalism from Auburn University. She has been a PRSA member since 2002 and earned her APR in 2012. Read More

Nia Johnson, Ph.D., APR, is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Samford University. A native of Birmingham, Nia’s previous work experience includes service as an adjunct instructor at several universities, communication manager for Lads to Leaders, a faith-based nonprofit in Montgomery, and communications coordinator for the Alabama Bankers Association (formerly the Community Bankers Association of Alabama). Meg W. Burton, APR, serves as corporate communications coordinator at Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the nation’s largest privately held construction firms. She is a graduate of The University of Alabama’s public relations program and her prior experience includes a role as Product Marketing Lead at SuccessEHS, a division of Greenway Health. She serves as programs chair for the Alabama chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and volunteers as a communications consultant for Christian Service Mission, a non-profit organization serving the Birmingham area.
