In 2007, an era ended in the Magic City. The Birmingham-based 120 year-old Parisian department store sold to Charlotte-based Belk department store. Belk is the nation's largest privately owned department-store company operating 307 Belk stores in 16 Southern states. Belk knew it was facing a challenge to convince Parisian-loyalists to continue shopping at the locations now bearing the Belk name.
One Year Later
It’s been almost a year since the Parisian signs were taken down in September 2007 and replaced with the Belk signs. How has the transition been for Belk? Are Parisian shoppers still spending their money? What did Belk do to get Alabamians into their stores?
Join us as we hear from Gary Siler, senior VP for director of stores for Belk’s Western Division. Siler has been in the Magic City during the transition and will tell us what Belk had to overcome to gain the trust of Parisian-loyalists.
